Partnership of the PKK and PYD on Press and Media Activities
Pro-PKK media institutions also constitute an important channel revealing the relation between PKK and PYD.
PKK media organs MED NUÇE TV, RONAHİ TV, STERK TV and NEVRUZ TV, had and still have a wide coverage of the activities of the PYD and YPG.
In the news reports of the Firat News Agency (ANF), subordinate to the PKK, issues indicating that PYD and PKK act together, come to the fore. It is observed that PYD flags, A. Ocalan’s banners and PKK symbols are all used together in the events /demonstrations organized by the organization.
Following are some examples from visual/social media of some events organized by the PYD members, indicating the organic link between the PKK and PYD:
- In the statement released by the PYD Executive Committee in 2009 it was asserted that “OCALAN’s views were in the interest of all the peoples in the region”. (Published in the Arabic www.gemyakurda.net internet site on October 17, 2009)
- In the booklet called “KONGRA-GEL’s 3rd General Assembly /Report/Message/Project” that was distributed to the organization members, it was openly stated that “over the last year the activities in Syria, Southwest Kurdistan and Saudi Arabia, Libya, Jordan and Lebanon were conducted by the PYD”.
- According to a 27 October 2011 report that appeared on PYD’s pydrojava.net internet site, PYD Leader Saleh Mohammad Muslim visited a venue on October 26, 2011 in Ras Al Ayn for offering condolences for terrorist Rüstem Cudi, a member of the KCK Executive Council, and stated that “the martyrs have shed blood for the entire Kurdistan”.
- Riza ALTUN, member of the KCK Executive Board, stated the following in an interview published on March 29, 2016 in the Austrian based Kurier Magazine: “I tacitly accept PYD as an offshoot of PKK.”
In the news broadcast on February 10, 2016 by the Hawar News Agency (ANHA), known for its close ties to the PKK, it was announced that “young YPG members have declared mobilization to provide support for the terrorist activities in Sirnak/Cizre, Silopi, Mardin/Nusaybin, Diyarbakir/Sur and Hakkari districts of Turkey and that they longed to fight neck to neck with young YPS members”.
